(North Bergen, NJ—May 8, 2017) This
March, students enrolled in World Languages at High Tech entered the National
Exams in French, Japanese, and Spanish, and results for this year have been
published at last, announced Dr. Joseph Giammarella, Principal of High
Tech High School.
Gold
Medalists include Mously Lo of Jersey City (French 3), Jeremy
Lewan of Bayonne and Jacqueline Perez
of Union City (both Spanish 3).
The Silver
Medalists include Diana Concepcion of North Bergen and James Espinosa of
Harrison (both French 2); Karina Chen of Union City (Japanese 1); Joan Marie Tubungbanua
of Jersey City, Giselle Echeverria of Kearny, North Bergen residents Gabriela
Conde and Yaimy Diaz, and Shelina Chotran of Secaucus (all Spanish 1); Ariadna
Diaz of North Bergen (Spanish 2); and Valeria Mesa of North Bergen and Alyssa
Conde of Secaucus (Spanish 3).
Finally,
the Bronze Medalists include Krystal
Andrade of Jersey City (French 1); Sophia Baldassari of Hoboken, Andrew Tran of
Kearny, and Janine Garcia of North Bergen (all French 2); Shanaz Muna of Jersey City (Japanese 1);
Zhixiu Zheng of North
Bergen (Japanese 2); Erin Chen of Harrison (Japanese 3);
Maritza Conde, Spanish 3 (M. Guzman); Angel Lizardi and Alice Meyer of Hoboken, Sophia Gliatto, Hillary
Ordonez, William Pogatsias, and Daniela Wise of Jersey City, Kara Kolodinsky, Jeel
Shah, Mellina Scaffo Vieta, and
Melanie Thevening of North Bergen, and Camila Garcia of Union City (all Spanish
1); and Marissa Conde of Secaucus (Spanish 3).
Over 50 High Tech students received Honorable
Mentions as well.
These competitions, organized annually by
AATF (American Association of Teachers of French), AATSP (American Association
of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese), and AATJ (American Association of
Teachers of Japanese), have become a staple
of World Languages departments across the country.
