As
a result of her academic excellence and culinary skills, Delila Torres has been
selected to receive the Goya Foods Culinary Arts Scholarship. She is a senior in the district’s culinary
arts program and studied with Chef Joseph Delesky. Delila will receive $5000 per year for four
years to continue her culinary arts education. In the Fall of 2017, Delila will
start at Hudson County Community College to complete her associates degree in
Culinary Arts. In 2019, she plans to attend Johnson & Wales in Providence,
Rhode Island to pursue her Bachelor’s Degree in Culinary Management and Food
Service Management. “We are proud of Delila’s commitment to her education
and wish her all the best,” said Principal Barbara Mendolla. Delila has learned
to prepare various types of hot and cold food. She competed in the Skills USA
Food Service competition the last two years and placed in the top ten out of
thirty competitors each year. Said Chef Delesky, “It has been a pleasure to
teach and watch Delila grow over the past four years. I believe that she will
be one of our success stories that we will be talking about in the near future.” Delila is the daughter of proud parents
Maritza and Dennis Torres. HCST thanks Goya Foods for their continuing support
of our culinary arts students.
