High Tech Again Earns Silver Medal as One of the Best High Schools in U.S. News & World Report

(Washington, D.C.—May 15, 2015) Once more, High Tech High School earned the Silver Medal in U.S. News & World Report’s “Best High Schools” poll, with High Tech placing 1,008 in the nation and 42nd in the state of New Jersey, announced Dr. Joseph Giammarella, Principal of High Tech High School.

High Tech received its rank based on its students who participated in Advanced Placement® courses and exams.  High Tech's AP® participation rate stood at 50 percent.  The report confirmed that High Tech boasts a full-time staff of 59 teachers, with a population of 620 students (59 percent female, 41 percent male), a student/teacher ratio of 10:1.  The total minority enrollment comes to 64 percent of the population.  39 percent of students qualify as economically disadvantaged.

According to student performance on state exit exams and college-level exams (AP®/IB exams), 100 percent of High Tech proves proficient in language (district average: 87 percent).  In Math, 94 percent demonstrates proficiency (district average: 54 percent).  39.4 percent meets the criteria for college readiness (district average: 28.1 percent).


The 2015 U.S. News & World Report “Best High Schools” pairs the U.S. News team with American Institutes for Research (AIR), a Washington, D.C.-based behavioral and social science research organization.  They analyzed more than 21,000 public high schools in 49 states (except Nebraska, the only state not reporting enough data) and the District of Columbia, the sum total of public high schools with 12th-grade enrollment and analytical data (culled from the 2013-2014 school year).
