County Prep Student Council Holds Video Game Tournament
On May 7th, the student council held the second part of their first Super Smash Bros. Tournament, a game about Nintendo’s best characters coming together to fight showing who the best character really is. The event lasted from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Competitors from all grade levels came to prove that they were the best players in County Prep High School. 34 people competed in the first round to be the next Champion of the singles. Games with 8 people at a time were being held with single game elimination. Of the many battles that were fought, one champion emerged; this person is a senior named Juarez Henriquez. Using the character Peach, he bested Jules (who was playing as Zelda from the Legend of Zelda series) in a final test of who was the better Smash Bros. player. The second half of the tournament (the doubles) consisted of players finding a friend and fighting it out against other teams to show who was the best at working together. The team that emerged victorious is Juarez Henriquez (the singles winner) and Christopher Ortiz. Juarez used Princess Peach from the Super Mario games and Christopher used King Dedede from the Kirby series. The two showed everyone who the best team actually is. Prizes were handed out at the end of the tournament to all the winners and a final amiibo was raffled off to the watchers of the tournament. Everyone is looking forward to next year’s tournament. - by Christopher Ortiz
