(North
Bergen—June 19, 2015) High Tech High School drama major Perry Martijena, a
freshman from Jersey City, can be seen in the first episode of the new season
of the hit Netflix series Orange Is The
New Black,
announced Dr. Joseph Giammarella, Principal of High Tech High School.
Once
named “The World’s Cutest Vegetarian Boy” by the People for the Erthical
Treatment of Animals (PETA) at nine years-old, Martijena has acted professionally
for eleven years and appeared in commercials, voiceovers, a 2008 episode of Law and Order (“Called Home”), and two
independent films (Tio Papi and The House That Jack Built, both released
in 2013).
“I
feel lucky to be in [High Tech], which not only supports, but develops, my
interests, and to be surrounded by people who share similar goals,” says Martijena. "It's really cool that I can implement
things I learn in Mrs. Arters’ drama class and bring it into my professional
work.”
Recently, Martijena took part in a new drama piece entitled “Acting for Film,” the brainchild of Deborah Arters, veteran drama instructor at High Tech.
“This year, along with his classmates, Perry’s
work has evolved and developed significantly,” notes Arters. “The drama class is designed so that students’
interests and skills can be shared and developed. I truly look forward to more
exciting work from Perry.”
