(Newark, NJ—May 9, 2016) Former High Tech High School student
Urvi Tiwari, an accounting and finance major from Jersey City, will receive
this year’s Distinguished Leadership Award at Rutgers Business School—Newark, announced
Dr. Joseph Giammarella, Principal of High Tech High School.
Students who demonstrate outstanding
academic achievement, service to Rutgers Business School, and leadership skills prove eligible for the Distinguished
Leadership Award. Created in 2011, the Distinguished
Leadership Award recognizes students from
Rutgers Business School's graduate and undergraduate programs.
Tiwari has earned scholarships at Rutgers, too, including one for
study in London. She served as
co-president of the Rutgers University—Newark Fashion and Business Club and the
Dean’s Advisory Council. In addition to her studies, Tiwari has
volunteered her services at the National September 11 Memorial and tutors
accounting students.
“Because of the scholarships, I was able to focus on
finding internships and doing volunteer work rather than looking for part-time
jobs that would help me afford an education,” notes Tiwari.
Tiwari and two other Distinguished
Leadership Award recipients have the honor of having their names engraved on
the Rutgers Business School bell and carrying the bell as they lead the class
of 2016 into High Point Solutions Stadium during Rutgers University's 250th
anniversary commencement ceremony on
Sunday, May 15th. To mark this
historic event, President Obama will offer the Commencement Speech and will also
receive an honorary Doctor of Laws degree.
