The County Prep Dance Program attended the Hudson County Teen Arts Festival on Saturday, April 30. The 407 Dance Company - Tamir Rios, Diana Uribe, Tamijah Southerland, Alyssa Acciavatti, Selah Rogerson, & Gianna Diaz - won the highest award of Top Honors for a performance choreographed by Guest Artist Robert Mark Burke. The dancers, along with Veronica Gagliardi, Mia Stephens, & Amanda Abdelaal also choreographed and performed "Off", which won the Judges Award. The adjudicators commented on the inventiveness of the students choreography as well as the unexpected ways that they worked with the music. The piece received a perfect score at the NJ High School Dance Festival, where judges commented 'wow they really know what they're doing!' Teacher Heather Warfel Sandler had this to say, "The County Prep Dance Program places a high priority on the creative process. I am especially proud that the merits of our students' choreography are being recognized as this is a unique group of young dance artists." Sophomores Delana Ramos, Esmeralda Bencosme, Sheron Scriven, Meredith Moore, & Samiyah Bryant also performed a new piece choreographed by junior Tamir Rios.
County Prep Dance will present their 15th Annual Dance Concert, Revealed, on Thursday & Friday May 12 & 13 at 7pm. The dance III class collaborated to merge their choreography into an evening length work. The piece investigates the dancer's dual role of creating abstract images with the body for the entertainment of the audience, while also sharing and revealing themselves on a personal level.
