High Tech Student Rimsha Reem Wins First Place in 2019 New Jersey ArcGIS Online Story Map Competition

(Trenton, NJ--June 6, 2019) Bayonne resident Rimsha Reem, a High Tech freshman in the Academy of Environmental Science and Sustainability, won First Place in the 2019 New Jersey ArcGIS Online Story Map Competition, announced Dr. Joseph Giammarella, Principal of High Tech.

Reem took part in the course Geospatial Technology with High Tech instructor Catherine Yuhas. In this course, she learned to critique and analyze data using the ArcGIS Online Mapping Program by Esri--an internationally-renowned supplier of geographic system software, web GIS, and geodatabase applications--and map the data in layers and present her findings via Esri’s Story Map application.

For the competition, Reem researched race and transportation in New Jersey. As she articulates in her Story Map entry, “My map analyzes two specific and very different ways of traveling: taking a public bus and using an eco-friendly car, and see how these tie in with the racial groups in the community they are used in. This data will ultimately solve the question: Do communities with different racial demographics commute in different ways?”
