Kearny resident Giselle Echeverria, who won the Top Honors Award, will move on to the New Jersey State Festival on May 29th-31st. One of only four Hudson County student artists to do so, Echeverria also has the honor of representing High Tech at the annual travelling exhibition, ensuring visibility throughout the state. Hoboken residents Charlotte Hysen, Aurora Foberg, and Alexandra Lee also won ribbons for their group cast plaster sculpture. Bayonne resident Chaco Iwase, Shahbano Abid of Jersey City, and North Bergen residents Diana Concepcion and Danny Arroyave earned ribbons as well.
“This has been a truly memorable year,” declares William Kennon, veteran Studio Arts instructor. “The Student Art Expo is a wonderful opportunity to showcase outstanding artwork produced by High Tech Studio Art students. It also offers students invaluable insight into what art programs in other schools are doing.”
All participating Hudson County high school students had their work adjudicated and awards bestowed upon them during the Awards Ceremony at the Bayonne Library and Cultural Center. The Student Art Expo had been open to the public through Mother’s Day there. After that, a much more selective and streamlined show continued to run at the New Jersey City University (NJCU) Art Gallery through May 23rd, the day of the awards ceremony.
