High Tech’s Sophia Baldassari Earns First Place as Teen Playwright

(Hoboken, NJ—November 8, 2018) High Tech High School junior Sophia Baldassari of Hoboken earned First Place in the Teen Author Category of the Hoboken Public Library’s One Act Play Writing Competition, announced Dr. Joseph Giammarella, Principal of High Tech.

A drama major at High Tech, Baldassari has performed at Manhattan repertory theatre and Upright Citizens Brigade. She developed her award-winning original play, Jenna Meets Death (Who Looks like Elton John), from one of the scenes that she composed for the High Tech drama Waiting Room last year. Her scene didn’t make it into the final cut of the show, but Baldassari reworked it into her play.

In addition to writing plays at High Tech, she performs with the school’s Stand-Up Comedy ensemble.
